iQiyi’s The Long Night snagged the award for ‘Best OTT Original’ at the Busan International Film Festival’s (BIFF) 2021 Asia Contents Awards (ACA), following the streaming giant’s ACA win for its Original C-drama The Bad Kids last year. The Long Night was also nominated for ‘Best Creative’, ‘Creative Beyond Border’, ‘Best Actor’ (Bai Yu) and ‘Best Writer’ categories.
The Long Night heralds five new original C-suspense series including Gold Panning, The Pavilion, Wisher, Who is the Murderer and Rainless Love in a Godless Land, all set to debut globally and exclusively on iQiyi.
Dai Ying, iQiyi Senior Vice President and Chief Producer of the ‘Light On’ series – iQiyi’s collection of thrillers – said: “The Long Night’s four nominations and ‘Best OTT Original’ win at BIFF Asia Contents Awards has not only delighted our creative team, but is also exciting news for the world’s Chinese content industry. We hope iQiyi’s ‘Light On’ series will be a worthy icon for the C-suspense genre, and hope international viewers will continue to support great stories, creatives and artistes.”
iQiyi’s Original ‘Light On’ series is built upon high production values as well as a rich and diverse selection of themes, with the aim of expanding audiences’ expectations of what C-suspense could be. Content from the ‘Light On’ series dominated the top 3 spots of Douban’s 2020 Movies of the Year list, with The Bad Kids not only winning the ‘Beat Creative’ honour at the 2020 ACA, but also being the only Chinese-language production in Variety’s ‘Best International TV Series of 2020’ shortlist.
iQiyi’s upcoming slate of C-suspense series cover a wide variety of themes. In addition to the currently-airing The Long Night, The Bad Kids and Danger Zone, viewers can expect to enjoy the adventure-filled Gold Panning; family-themed The Pavilion; social commentary in the Wisher; crime themed Who is the Murderer; and Asian fantasy themed Rainless Love in a Godless Land.
Among the acclaimed cast and crew involved in these shows are director Wang Xiaoshuai, Silver Bear award winner for ‘Best Screenplay’ and a chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; Liao Fan, the first Chinese ‘Best Actor’ at the Berlin International Film Festival; Duan Yihong, Tokyo International Film Festival’s ‘Best Actor’; Hao Lei, Shanghai Film Festival’s ‘Best Actress’; Feng Shaofeng, Hundred Flowers Awards’ ‘Best Actor’; and Zhao Liying, Macau International TV Festival’s ‘Best Actress’.
Viewers around the world can enjoy iQiyi’s Original C-suspense series Danger Zone and Rainless Love in a Godless Land, as well as ‘Light On’ thrillers including The Long Night, The Bad Kids, Gold Panning, The Pavilion, Wisher, and Who is the Murderer on the iQiyi International app and iQ.com.
